Default LCD Display - Brightness

I broke the LCD display onmy Acer laptop. I bought a new display and fitted it. The display was selected so as to ensure commonality with the broken one.

1) are LCD panels of a common standard? Does one fit all?

2) why is my new screen very dark? Can I simply adjust the brightness?

3) why did I have to pay nearly as much for the single screen as for the laptop!

Ta.

Welcome to PC Help Forum Grouch,

In answer to your points...

1) No, laptops have varying screen sizes, widths and quality of display so you tend to find that manufacturers screens are bespoke for their laptops.
2) You should be able to adjust the brightness thru a combination of: holding down your function(Fn) button and tapping another button - the brightness button usually has a picture of a sun on it.
3) They are expensive...bottom line. It seems crazy when, in the UK, you can pick up this laptop for an amazingly low price: http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/358206 - whilst it isn't very highly specced, it would still serve quite nicely for surfing, office, email and other stuff.
