Default Intel vs. AMD

I'm helping my friend build a new system. However, I'm quite confused about the Intel AMD battle now. I've narrowed down the selection to the following 2 PCs.

Intel-based Computer

GIGABYTE GA-8I915P-D Pro (Intel 915P) DDR2 + PCI Express
KINGSTON 1GB (PC-4300) 533MHz DDR2-533
INTEL Pentium-4 530 3.0GHz (1MB/SSE3/Box) 800MHz FSB
MSI NX6600-TD256 (GeForce 6600) 256MB DDR
Hitachi T7K250 -160GB- (HDT722516DLA380/8MB) SATA-II

AMD-based Computer

ABIT NF8 (NVIDIA NF3 250GB) HyperTransport+SATA
AMD Athlon64 3000+ (2.0GHz/512kb)
KINGSTON 1GB 400MHz ValueRAM
MSI (Microstar) NX6600-TD256 (GeForce 6600) 256MB DDR
Hitachi (HGST) T7K250 -160GB- (HDT722516DLA380/8MB) SATA-II

I know that the AMD rig is 64 bit compatible, but is it faster than the Intel above presently? The prices are almost the same. And how much does DDR2 improve on overall system performance compared to Dual Channel DDR?

Feel free to modify the specs.
Thanks.

Well as far as I know that AMD is more powerfull then the Intel, but are the prices really the same? I thought Intel was much more expensive compared to AMD. Where do you get the prices from?
I'm not quite sure which of these 2 to choose, the Intel has a higher FSB you know.

AMD all the way, especially if you're a gamer. Unless Intel came out with something really special, AMD is the best for gaming and intense programs.

I agrea with the AMD 64 being the better choice , but i also agrea with Blue that the AMD should be cheaper.

I'd go with AMD, in my experience it's faster then intel chips, and slightly less expensive.

Well everyone votes for AMD I think!?!
I made my decission and join
I have enough experience with AMD to say there really good, and I'm pretty sure the Pentium is more expensive.

Just a thought.

The AMD motherboard and chip you listed is 754 pin you should consider a 939 pin motherboard and chip for upgrade potential and better performance. The abit board also has an agp slot, if you are buying a new gfx card anyway then you should consider a board with PCI-E.

If the main concern here is money then I would say the performance increase of 939 and PCI-E is greater than having a Nforce chipset and would go for the cheaper via alternative.

Hope this helps.
