Default USB2 Card wont Recognize any devices

Hi!

I bought an usb 2.0 adapter card, which i installed in my pc.
i use winXP sp 2 with the latest updates.
now, i connect a device usb2 or usb1 with the usb cable to the card thru the back of the pc tower and nothing happens..then i connect the device to my old usb1 adapter and it instantly finds the usb devices.
under control panel>system>hardware>device manager>universal serial bus controllers i can see 1) 3x ali pci to usb open host controller 2)usb mass storage device 3)5x usb root hub 4)2x via rev 5 or later usb universal host controller
then theres another device manager>universal serial bus controllers with 1)ali pci to usb enhanced host controller 2)usb 2.0 root hub

the usb2 adapter just doesnt recognize things at all. i dont know if i need any drivers, i downloaded one (Adaptec USB 2.0 Driver Version 3.1) but it didnt help me cos i couldnt install it.

please help me

:-) Hey Kaka,

Welcome to PCHF. We have a whole team of folks here that are going to help you figure this out.

Can you elaborate on why you weren't able to install the drivers for your device, did you get an error message, did nothing happen?

What were the instructions that came with the device? Were there any CDs for installation.

Do you have all of your updates to your machine? Is this the only 2.0 USB device on your machine?

Hardware, unfortunately is not my area of expertise, but answering these questions may help my teammates to determine what is causing this device to malfunction.

Look forward to your reply,

TTFN

hi guys and thanks for replying.

its a pci usb adapter card that you plug into the pci slot on your mainboard. i got an asus a7v mainboard.
i think its pci cos in the agp slot i got my grafic card but i think thats enough so you know what kinda card i mean.
there was no driver cd with that usb2 adapter.
when trying to install the driver i downloaded nothing happened.
as i previously mentioned usb2 "things" appear in my device manager..

In youre device manager , does anything have a red cross or a question mark next to them?

Also can you try the card in a different pci slot?
