Ok, I've just put together a system using the following hardware:

Gigabyte GA-K8N Pro-SLI
Corsair TWINX1024-3200C2PRO 1GB Kit DDR400 XMS3200 Dual-Channel ProSeries Memory
Asus Extreme N6800 GeForce
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Processor (ClawHammer) Socket 939
74 GB Raptor
Asus CD-S520B 52X IDE/ATAPI CD-ROM
ANTEC TPII-550ATX RTL (550 watt)

Everything SHOULD work together fine - I've built a LOT of systems and never had the following problem...

Ok, loading XP from a genuine disc, all drives are recognized although the Raptor is recognized as an IDE (it's SATA). I used the SATA drivers supplied by Gigabyte (the most up to date). Windows will format the drive...and when it gets to 100% it freezes. If I do the quick format, it jumps to 20% instantly and then freezes. I've had 3 professional techs run through the bios and set up, and everything is as it should be. The motherboard, cpu, memory, hard drive, and video card all check out ok on other systems.

SO...this is completely confusing to me, and this post is a desperate attempt to find someone who has come across the same issue. Please help!

Welcome to the PCHF ohcaptian.

I understand that this post is rather old now, and you probably have fixed the problem already.

If so, can you please let us know what you did to resolve this (as it's very common problem with many different solutions) for other users benefits.

I apologise noone has responded to your question before now, but if there is still a problem, please let me know and i will help you out. (I know an extensive amount about new hardware).
