I just bought a new video card, and realized (after I installed it) that my cases power supply was 350, and the required power for the card is 400.
It worked for a week, and then stopped working.
Is the video card done, or can I switch the power supply/case ?
Edit- Is it possible to replace a power supply without the hassle of switching cases, or removing all the hardware?

Hey Moondoggy!
(I loved those old Gidget movies :-D ) Do you have another PC that you could test out the Vid Card on? Unless you can test it, I don't know of another way to see if it's fried or not. Maybe one of the other guys has a way to tell. How complicated switching out the power supply is depends on the design of your PC, but usually is located at the outer edge. What is the make and model of your PC? I would be better able to tell about the difficulty. TTFN T

Ya most can be easily installed a couple wires here and there. But a warning if you have a Dell pc you will not be able to change the power supply. Your video card (if it is only the power supply) will be fine. Easy way to tell is take the video card out and press the power buttun and see if it turns on.. But as for the Dell pc's the have a special power supply made for them that if you change it you can burn your motherboard out quick

Here?s the thing. The computer still works, but whenever I try to open up a game, movie, etc it just makes the screen go blank, and sometimes some static comes up on the screen.}
If it were fried would it work at all? The computer turns on and runs fine until I put any stress on it, however the same card and PC worked fine together 2 weeks ago. It's an Alienware also (old cases). Thanks. |

Its an alienware case? Or pc. It seems more like your graphics card might be overheating. Can you do other stress test's on it exept games? Like I will give you a link to stess the cpu instead of the graphics card and see if it freezes up.
This will only torture your cpu http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=36

Can you have a look at the voltage output of youre psu with this app? MBM5 If youre vga card requirers a 400w psu then i think the 350w just isn't enough. What else do you have in there?

350 isn't enough, and that's why I'm asking.
Back to the original question. If I replace the power supply will the card work ok? |
