Alright, one morning I turned my monitor on & my Dell Dimesnion 4600 had a black screen with a blinking
white line on it..that's it.? So I restarted it figuring some random thing must have happened.? But when
it loaded up, the same screen showed up.? I don't know what happened to it.? I can't even get to the boot
menu or the setup menu in the BIOS.? It just brings me back to that same screen.? I called Dell Tech
Support & needless to say it didn't help much.? The lady kept having me do the same thing over & over even
after telling here that it didn't work.? So Dell decided to send me a new mother board & video card
(because the ABCD lights were GGYY, which signifies something with a card).? So I get the MOBO & the
videocard in today & install it with ease.? But it still didn't work.? I thought it might of been my
hardrive so I started to format it with my friends computer that was left over my house, but while it was
formatting, I swapped out my friends HD to see if it worked in my computer, & it didn't so I just realized
that I formatted for nothing.? I tried getting a hold of Dell through phone & chat but wasn't successful.?
I started doing some research online & one thread on the Dell forums said to change the power supply, so I
switched with my friends PC & that didn't work.? I have trying to fix my computer since 3:30pm & it's now
10:00pm.? I am getting very tired & frustrated.? if anyone of you can help me out with this I would
GREATLY appreciate it.? Thanks A lot!

Welcome to the forums..
Dell support :banghead: Do you have an onboard video card? Might be worth trying to put an AGP card or any other video card into the computer as a test. On another note have you tested your monitor to make sure that it works correctly, you never know.

Thanks,
I have an AGP card, an Nvidia FX 5200. & I know it's not the monitor or powersupply because I've tried it with a new PS & a new moniter & it still didn't work. |

One problem with Dell's is that YOU cannot change thier power supply. They have special power supplies just for Dell pc's did you swapp it out with another Dell approvrf psu? If not then that may be your main problem, or somthing's shorting out somwhere. But the new psu in a dell is a big no no.
Also did you try restting the cmos? Take out the battery for 30 40 seconds and put it back in. You should be able to get into your bios at least then

The PSU I put in was from a sony VAIO, but everything turned on it just did the same thing. as for resetting the BIOS, I have given that a thought but I have never done that before & my friends weren't sure I should do it or not.

Ya its easy and harmless. Just open the case and look for the little silver battery. Pull it out for 30 seconds and put it back in. Make sure the power supply cord is unplugged from the wall....

What does it do exactly? Will it mess up any of my other cards or expansions? Will it mess up my harddrive?
