Do you get any error beeps when starting your machine, if not make sure your speaker is connected to the motherboard properly.
What is the make/model of your motherboard? It sounds like it might be a dodgy graphics card, do you have another card you could exchange it with to test?

To reset the CMOS:
Turn off your PC and unplug the power cord. Remove battery and wait for 30 seconds. Replace battery, plug in the power and turn your PC on You can see the manual for your motherboard here: http://europe.giga-byte.com/MotherBo...8vm533_p_e.pdf Check the manual out and look at the "NOTE" on the first page, explains problems that have been encountered with certain graphics cards.
