Solved: Random crash, please help.

I have just upgraded my PC, everything seemed to be ok but now it has started randomly crashing.? What happens is that the monitor goes into standby mode and cannot be switched back on.? I cannot tell if the PC is still functioning or not.? I don't think it is although the lights on the front still flash and it sounds like it is accessing the hard drive as usual.

It happens when the computer is idle and in use (I thought it might be the power saving feature but I set this to never go off and still does it)

I have Norton Antivirus 2005 which says I am clean so I don't think it is a virus.

I have upgraded the driver of my graphics card to be the most up to date and that hasn't helped.

I have upgraded to Windows XP service pack 2 and that hasn't helped.

I am not very good with this sort of thing so I am a bit stuck now.? Below is the details of my PC (From Belarc Advisor) incase you require it.

Hi TheLamb

Are you sure that the hibernate setting is set to OFF?

Also, make sure that your GFX card is seated propelry and that the fan is working on it.
Go into the bios and dis-able all power saving functions.

This definitely sounds like a GFX card/Monitor/Power saving problem...

I have tried to turn the power save functions off in the bios and this hasn't helped.? I have also pulled the graphics card out and replaced it, which hasn't helped either.? ? :x

Is there a jumper setting on the motherboard to turn off power saving all together?

I'm not sure it is a power saving thing though as it can/does happen when I am in the middle of typing or using the mouse.?

Very odd, and very frustrating. :|

What type of interface do your mouse and keyboard have?

Usb or PS/2 ?

Have you checked to see whether your system is overheating, check all the fans, including the PSU fan
