Win XP Hme computer used to read .JPX files from "G" drive digital camera.
It has stopped doing so.
"Can't recognize file type" says message.
The first time it said some plug-in was corrupted and asked me if I wanted to disable it.
I had to say Yes. It wouldn't let me proceed.
Now it does read the JPEG files on my computer and those emailed to me.
It just has a problem with those on the digital camera throught the USB connector.
But it will see the folder on the G drive that the image files are in.
My son's similarly configured computer, however, reads them from the digital camera without any problems.
Friend suggested I reload the "JPEG IMAGE" file type plug-in.
OK. How do I do it?
Can anybody help me? And is this what's wrong?
I've already cleaned up the received files and offline content from the IE Tools, etc menu.
Hasn't worked.
Thank you.
AjitH

This is what I got from the MSFT Community Board:
When you install Windows XP Service Pack 2, the USB 2.0 drivers do not appear to update http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=873169 To troubleshoot this issue, you may try reinstalling the digital camera drivers and software, also reinstall the USB port drivers from the device manager. You may refer to the following Windows XP & USB related Microsoft articles: General USB troubleshooting in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/default...5&ID=KB;EN-US; Q310575 USB device does not function after connecting device to Windows XP Service Pack 2-based computer http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=windo wsxpsp2 Thanks a zillion. Once this problem's fixed, I will try Irfan View. |

is the "cant recognize file type" a windows erro message, or is it a message from a program u opened to use to view the .jpx?
if its just from a program. the file type association may just have be altered somehow. witch can easily be changed back by going to... \control pannel\folder options\file typs\jpx\action: open\edit\change. i dont think iv seen that message in windows so i couldnt help u there. but im looking at File types right know, and i can tell u that i dont have .jpx in my list. so thats probably a plugin that was installed with your digital camera drivers. reinstalling those dirvers or program, would proably fix your problem. there are multiple ways to first uninstall, any of witch will work... \control pannel\add remove programs\xxxxxxx- remove or perhaps \start menu\programs\xxxxxxx\uninstall or the cd driver disk may have an uninstaller on it too just once u get it uninstalled, reinstall what ever programs and drivers came with the camera. or if u dont have the disk, u can proably download any dirvers/programs u need from the manufaturus website. |

Thanks jolancer for your trouble.
I should have said .jpg file type NOT .jpx file type. Sorry. I don't touch type also. There is no driver coming in with the camera. It's like observing data on a USB memory stick. The problem is my computer was hijacked some time ago. The restore points prior to the hijack have been deleted. So I can't reload the version that was working. So I am finding these sneaky problems one by one. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. The computer does not recognize the JPEG type file on a USB port. But will recognize it in an email or in My Documents. It is definitely a Microsoft problem. That's because I tried reinstalling the USB drivers and Hub in dev mgr. No luck. So Digital camera has no driver, reinstalled USB drivers don't affect it. The first time I tried using the digital camera (after the hijack), message came saying some plug-in was corrupted. It wouldn't let me proceed until I disabled it. I though it was something minor, so I didn't take down its name. Maybe if you or anyone out there could tell me which Active X plug-in to download for JPEG Type files... This works OK on my son's WIn XP Home Ed computer. Thanks once again. Ajit |
