The digital camera is a Pentax Optio S40.
Last night I tried using both Picture Viewer and Irfan.
Picture Viewer said, "Couldn't display "IMPG.JPG" because a suitanle graphics importer could not be found."
So I downloaded the Direct X update. Didn't work.
Next I tried Irfan.
It said, "Can't read file header. Unknown file format!"

Maybe this has something to do with me deleting the VBSCRIPT SCRIPT File type some time ago.
That Jeff Levy, the computer guy on the radio, suggested we remove it to avoid phising emails.
I think VBSCRIPT is used by the graphics importer.
I can't think of anything else. That seems to be the only difference between my computer and my sons computer.
Do you know how to restore VBSCRIPT?
Its in the My Computer->Tools -> Options -> File Types tab.
Thanks for your interest.

Just to confirm something, if you copy the files from the USB drive (G) onto your hard drive are you then able to open the JPG files?

Try to unplug your camera, boot your machine up in safe mode and go into Device Manager.
Go down to your "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" and uninstall everything within it.

Then run a program like Regclean
and once it has finished, fix the errors and restart your machine.

Once in windows, plug in your camera and test.

Hi Zimbo,

It recognizes the file as "IMPGJPG026". Shows the icon in "G" drive.
But when I click on it, it says, "Can't recognize file type"

I tried what you said.
Now I have a RegCleaned version of Home with reinstalled USB Device Drivers.
But it still won't work.

I restored VBSCRIPT File TYPE.

Now I'm looking for the name of the Cab file to restore, the graphics importer.
Do you know where the CAB files are on Win XP Home edition?
And how to run them?
Maybe in the Recovery Console.

Thanks for your interest.
Sincerely,

Ajit

Try this quickly first - right click on the icon that you have in the G: drive and select "Open with" then select "Windows picture and Fax viewer" - If you don't have that in the list, choose "Browse for.." and find the "Windows picture and Fax viewer" - making sure that you check the box so that it always uses this program.
