Hi everyone~ I recently downloaded some files into my usb portable harddisk. Then when I plug it into my comp (and all others) the pc'll restart automatically. Can anyone help me with this problem? ;_;

Welcome to PCHF
What files did you put onto the hard drive ? Could you try and boot the computer into safe mode and then try plug the hard drive in. (not sure if the USB will work in safe mode but try anyway) Does the PC boot up with the USB drive disconnected?

Hello~ thanks for replying so fast~
I downloaded some movie files. Yup, th PC boots properly when I unplug it. When I go to safe mode (with the usb plugged in) it restarts

Very strange...
Could you shut down your computer. When the power is off plug the USB drive in and then boot it up.

Could you post your PC spec - you can use Belarc found here : http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/fil...id,8078,00.asp
Could you also post the make and model number of your external USB drive. Might be worth going into device manager and making sure there are no conflicts. Also boot your machine into safe mode, go into device manager and delete the USB devices.(should be at the bottom of the list) and then restart your machine. It should re-install your USB. once installed (it might ask you to restart) try your hard drive again
