Several Windows versions get sales ban in China
By: CompuZap | Posted 11.19. 2009Ruling in favor of a local company, a Beijing court has decided this week that Microsoft has to stop selling the Chinese editions of Windows 98, 2000, Server 2003 and XP.
The problem with these Windows operating systems is that they make use of a Chinese font designed by Zhongyi Electronic, a company which claims Microsoft has violated the license agreement for that font.
According to Zhongyi, Microsoft only had the right to use its font for Windows 95, with later versions not being covered by their deal.
Microsoft already has enough problems trying to sell Windows OSes in China due to software piracy so, naturally, it won’t take this sales ban sitting down. An appeal is already in the works.
