Google Search gets more melodic with OneBox service
By: CompuZap | Posted 10.29. 2009As recently rumored, web titan Google has decided to get its groove on and make it easier for people to find, listen to and purchase music. For this to happen Google has partnered up with Lala and MySpace’s iLike and started to roll out the OneBox service within its web search.
With OneBox people just have to search for music by entering the name of a song, an artist, an album, or type in lyrics, and use the results returned to listen to audio previews (full song, not a 30-second demo) - provided by iLike or Lala, and quickly purchase the desired track(s). Moreover, Google Search will also help you discover new music by including links to Pandora, imeem and Rhapsody that relate to your song queries. Google has stated that its deal with the sites/music services doesn’t involve revenue sharing, probably because it already has too much money (BEd: If there is such a thing).
According to the Google Blog: “This feature doesn’t just make search better. It also helps people discover new sources of licensed music online while helping artists to discover new generations of fans and reconnect with longtime listeners. Our users love music, and this tool introduces millions of music seekers in the U.S. to a new generation of licensed online music services, from MySpace and Lala to Pandora, imeem and Rhapsody.”
For now OneBox is only being rolled out in the US.
