Microsoft pull out of “Almost Live” Family Guy episode
By: CompuZap | Posted 10.28. 2009A few weeks back we reported that as part of Microsoft’s Windows 7 marketing run, the company and product would be featured in a special “Almost Live” comedy show from the creators of the popular US television show Family Guy.
Well in a public statement this week a Microsoft spokesperson has now confirmed “we initially chose to participate in the Seth and Alex variety show based on the audience composition and creative humor of Family Guy, but after reviewing an early version of the variety show, it became clear that the content was not a fit with the Windows brand.”
According to Variety themselves, the Microsoft marketing deal (including the Family Guy set itself) is actually still in place, despite the fact that Microsoft will not be part of the “Almost Live Comedy Show”.
This is contradictory to what Gayle Troberman, consumer engagement and advertising manager for Microsoft, stated back when the first news was announced.
Variety admitted that the show was dropped for sponsorship due to the content developed by Seth MacFarlane and Alex Borstein, with “riffs on deaf people, the Holocaust, feminine hygiene and incest,” - the usual style of humor featured in the show.
Sounds like someone at Microsoft ok’d this deal before actually watching the show! Good job Microsoft.
