What is Phishing?
By: PCHF | Posted 05.9. 2009Phishing is something that is becoming more and more of a problem over the years.
Phishing is where a sites are made to look like another, for example myspace or facebook, or even sites such as on-line banking. The purpose of these sites are to steal your account details.
Once you type your login info into the bad site, without knowing they will usually save it for themselves (so they now have your password) and then they will usually redirect you to the real site saying invalid password so that you think you just typed it in wrong. Then you never even know that your password was stolen.
A good way to stay away from phishing and bad sites in general is to get a protection toolbar against it. Here are two of my recommendations:
- Protection from Adware, Spam, Viruses, Online Scams | McAfee SiteAdvisor
- Sitehound prevents visits to malicious websites, phishing, spyware, exploits, scams, fraud and more | Firetrust Ltd
These will help keep you protected against harmful sites and phishing.
Also remember to keep your anti-virus and anti-malware programs up-to-date and have your firewall on and you should have a safe PC.
